2020 DermLink Grant Recipients Announced
We are excited to share the the details of our 2020 ILDS DermLink grant recipients:
The Association of Professors of Dermatology (APD) seeks to establish South-South cooperation between Tajik dermatologists and their counterparts in Nepal, through which Tajik dermatologists will learn about successful models of dermatologic care delivery in low resource settings
The Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), in collaboration with Beyond Suncare, will provide free skin cancer prevention services to 200 persons with albinism (PwA) living in Bié Province, Angola. This will include educational workshops, dermatological consultations, access to bespoke sunscreens, psychosocial support, and promotion of social inclusion of PwAs.
Through community engagement and fieldwork in Ethiopia, the British Dermatological Nursing Group (BDNG) seeks to develop a sustainable skincare regimen, which requires limited water resources, for people living with Podoconiosis (non-filarial lymphoedema).
In partnership with the Bulgarian National Agency for Refugees, the Bulgarian Dermatological Society (BDS) will provide free skin and sexual health consultations and dermatological care to Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Refugees in Bulgaria. As part of this, they will also raise awareness about common sexually transmitted infections and diseases as well as communicable skin conditions.
The Colegio Ibero Latinoamericano de Dermatologia (CILAD) will deliver two days of training and workshops for doctors and healthcare workers in the Dominican Republic. As part of this project, CILAD will also provide free dermatological care to 400 people from low-resource areas.
The Dutch Society of Dermatology and Venerology (NVDV), in collaboration with the Sumba Foundation, aims to improve access to primary skincare in under-served rural communities in Sumba, Indonesia by creating a sustainable teledermatology service and providing face-to-face clinical training for healthcare workers.
In partnership with The Albinos Foundation (TAF), the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists (NAD) aims to ensure the early detection and treatment of premalignant lesions amongst PwA in Anambra State in Nigeria through 3 monthly skin examinations using dermoscopy.
In Nepal, the Society of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists of Nepal (SODVELON) will raise awareness about dermatophytosis (Tinea) and common skin conditions and provide free dermatological care for 1,500 manual labourers in Sunsari District, Nepal.
Turkish Society of Dermatology (TSD) will raise awareness about skin cancer and sun protection through a multimedia campaign and educational workshops amongst farming communities in Turkey. As part of this, they will develop educational resources and distribute protective equipment to farmers, including wide brim hats and sunscreen.
This year, we received the highest number of DermLink applications ever. Unfortunately, we cannot fund every application. We appreciate the time taken by all applicants to tell us about their projects.
