As an organisation in official relations with the WHO, the ILDS had the opportunity to submit a written statement to the WHA. The ILDS statement highlighted the following main points:
There are increasing reports of dermatologic manifestations of COVID-19 and the dermatological community is collaborating on newly developed registries and guidance in order to support patients with skin conditions during the pandemic
Clear guidance, preventive and therapeutic measures are required to address the increase in occupational irritant skin disease in healthcare workers and the global population caused by necessary hand washing and alcoholic disinfection as well as from protective goggles and face masks
The full statement can be accessed here.
The ILDS will be continuing to lead and support activities to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Keep up to date with our efforts on our dedicated webpage.
A significant outcome of the WHA this year was the adoption, by consensus of more than 130 countries, of a resolution on the global responses to COVID-19. The resolution calls for:
Intensification of efforts to control the pandemic
Equitable access to and fair distribution of all essential health technologies and products to combat COVID-19
Independent and comprehensive evaluation of the global response to the pandemic
