In order to facilitate effective communication in dermatology, a clearly defined glossary with precise descriptions is essential. The ILDS "Glossary of basic dermatology lesions" was first published in 1987. A quarter of a century later, the ILDS made the decision to revise and expand this nomenclature. This revision of the glossary was accomplished as the result of active participation by the ILDS Members.
The Glossary is available as an open access article in the British Journal of Dermatology and can be viewed here: "The 2016 International League of Dermatological Societies' revised glossary for the description of cutaneous lesions"
In 2018 the revised Glossary for the description of cutaneous lesions translated into Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
