Measuring disease burden
29 Jun 2026

Exploring how skin disease burden is measured, and why better data matters for policy, practice, and global skin health.
Join the next Global Dermato-Epidemiology Forum (GDEF) Seminar Series session exploring how skin disease burden is measured, and why strong epidemiological data matters for global skin health policy, research, and practice.
Featuring Katrina Abuabara and Liane Ong, with chair Roderick Hay, this seminar will examine different approaches to measuring skin disease incidence, prevalence, and burden, including insights from the Global Burden of Disease project.
The session will explore the opportunities and challenges in generating reliable skin health data across different populations and settings, and discuss how stronger evidence can support advocacy, public health priorities, and implementation of the World Health Assembly Resolution on Skin Diseases.

Bringing together experts across dermatology, epidemiology, and public health, the webinar provides an opportunity for global discussion, collaboration, and shared learning in dermato-epidemiology.

Global Dermato-Epidemiology Forum (GDEF) Seminar Series
The Global Dermato-Epidemiology Forum (GDEF) Seminar Series is bi-monthly global programme bringing together dermatology, epidemiology, and public health to strengthen the evidence base for skin diseases and support translation into policy and practice.
The series forms part of the Global Dermato-Epidemiology Forum (GDEF), a collaborative initiative established in response to the World Health Assembly Resolution on Skin Diseases. GDEF provides an international platform for scientific exchange, collaboration, and coordinated action to address gaps in data on the burden of skin diseases worldwide.
