World Atopic Eczema Day takes place on 14 September 2026!
Atopic eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a common skin condition that causes itchy skin. It affects people of all ages but is most common in young children. It cannot be cured, but treatment can help manage the symptoms. Atopic eczema is a complicated skin condition. It can be caused by a number of things, including your genes and the environment around you. It affects up to 20% of children and up to 10% of adults globally.
This year’s campaign theme, #BreakTheInvisibleBurden, follows the adoption of the Skin Diseases Resolution at the 78th World Health Assembly. The Resolution recognises skin diseases as an important global health policy issue and draws attention to the significant, and often overlooked, burden they create for people around the world.
World Atopic Eczema Day 2026 provides a platform to highlight the medical, social, emotional, economic, and public health effects of atopic eczema, while encouraging action locally, regionally, and globally. The Resolution also offers patients and patient organisations a valuable foundation for advocating for meaningful policy progress.
The International Alliance of Dermatology Patient Organizations (Globalskin) have created a toolkit which brings together practical resources, campaign inspiration, advocacy support, media and outreach advice, and ready-made materials designed to help increase understanding of the hidden burden of atopic eczema.
