The Commission Co-Chairs

Co-chairs provide a Commission's strategic leadership. Usually, two or three senior figures in the field define its scope and objectives, assemble the commissioners and oversee the work through to publication. They guide deliberations, coordinate the working groups and serve as principal authors of the final report. They represent the Commission to policymakers, the media and the research community. After publication, they continue to champion its findings and support their translation into policy and practice. Their expertise, credibility and networks are integral to the Commission's reach and impact.

Commissioners of a Lancet Commission are experts appointed to work on the commission. They are a multidisciplinary group of academics, clinicians, researchers and policymakers selected for their expertise on the commission's topic. Drawn from institutions around the world, they will spend two to three years reviewing evidence, conducting analysis and producing a comprehensive report with recommendations to shape policy, practice and research in global health.
