World Mental Health Day takes place on 10 October 2026!
The theme for World Mental Health Day 2026 is "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change".
World Mental Health Day (WMHDAY) was founded by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992. It was envisioned as a day to promote mental health advocacy and public education worldwide. Institutions like the World Health Organization and the United Nations have embraced October 10th as a cornerstone of global mental health awareness.
Research has highlighted a clear link between skin health and mental health. People living with long-term skin conditions may be more likely to experience anxiety, depression, or reduced self-esteem. Evidence also shows that emotional stress, anxiety, and depression can contribute to flare-ups, make symptoms worse, or extend the duration of various skin conditions, including but not limited to acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, hives, and hair loss. The relationship works in both directions: having a chronic skin condition, particularly one that is visible or painful, can also increase emotional strain and distress. Clinically, this two-way relationship is often described as the “psychodermatological” connection, showing that the skin and mind are closely linked and can influence one another in a cycle that may be difficult to disrupt.
The ILDS is proud to support World Mental Health Day 2026 and raise awareness of the important connection between skin health and mental wellbeing.
