World Urticaria Day takes place on 1 October 2026.

Urticaria, also referred to as hives, is a condition marked by the rapid appearance of itchy, raised areas on the skin, known as wheals. Their colour can differ depending on skin tone and may look red, pink, similar to the surrounding skin, or darker. These marks are usually short-lived, with the skin often returning to its usual appearance within about 24 hours. Wheals may develop in one area or appear more widely across the body, and they are frequently associated with swelling called angioedema.

Many people living with chronic urticaria struggle every day with itch, swelling, and unpredictable flare ups. These symptoms can affect sleep, work, relationships, and confidence. Many patients feel that their condition is not fully understood.

Urticaria Day (UDAY) is an opportunity to raise awareness of Urticaria across the world, to help improve the lives of patients and to progress understanding amongst professionals, media and the general public.
